The Puritan ideology was based upon a set of rigid beliefs........ these beliefs defined the thoughts of the community, and in turn, the individual. The Puritan theocracy was run by its religious leaders, and thus, the community believed their decisions to be good and right; heaven sanctioned the decisions of those in authority..... or so it was believed. Questioning those in authority was considered an offense toward God.
Danforth believed himself to be an instrument of God....... he believed his judgments to be right and truthful. The individual didn't matter, only the good of the whole. This was supported by his belief in absolute right.
