Putnam accuses Proctor of taking trees off his land. Putnam claims the land belonged to his grandfather. Proctor says Putnam's grandfather willed land away which did not belong to him.Putnam covets land. He wants every inch that he can steal from others. Putnam may well use the hysteria over witches to secure more land for himself.
