Why is Paris so quick to dismiss the possibility that Betty’s ailment is the result of “unnatural causes”?

Parris is aware of what the girls were doing in the woods, as he witnessed some of their actions. He does not want withcraft associated with his home, so he quickly dismisses the idea.
