Why is Reverned Parris praying at the beginning of Act One ? Might he have more than one reason ?

Reverend Parris kneels before his daughter's bed praying and weeping because he has learned that some of the women of his congregation were seen dancing in the forest. This means only one thing: witchcraft. He also worries about his own status as reverend in the village should witchcraft be found in Salem.
