what effect does the police officers question have on on Christopher and why? how does Christopher try to find safety?

The police officers ask Christopher questions too quickly, and in response Christopher grows frustrated. His reaction is to disengage, he curls into a ball. He finds safety in curling up into the fetal position, that safety is removed when the officer forces him to his feet. Christopher reflexively lashes out at the officer and strikes him.
