Do you have a specific chapter you are referring to? In chapter 1, Hannah complains that she does not want to go. Her Mother reminds her that it is Passover.

This question goes along with chapters 6-8.

Answer:

1. The badchan entertains the guests.

2. The bride rides in a wagon for a long time before getting married.

There is also a second part to this question that the questioner did not include. For the people that need that, here is the answer that would help.

Question:

Compare and contrast them to a wedding that might take place in your community.

Answer:

This is different from a wedding from around my community because in “The Devil’s Arithmetic”, the bride rides a wagon, whereas here, usually they don’t. Another difference is that a “badchan” are usually at Jewish weddings whereas for the most part, people don’t have them where I live. The similarities between these two are that sometimes, we would have somebody to entertain the early guest. They could be speaking, or even doing comedy.
