chapter 12
chapter 12
he tells her that the dress she is wearing had belonged to his daughter whose name had also been Chaya. However, she is Chaya no longer. She is J197241. He warns her not to forget it, because if she does then life is truly gone. His parting words are, “Live. For my Chaya. For all our Chayas. Live. And remember.” (pg. 100) Then, Hannah holds little Tzipporah on her lap while she is tattooed and sings a wedding song about the madness forced upon them. Tzippporah lies silent in her lap.
