Despite having to live in a virtual prison Anne is able to adapt to her cramped surroundings. At times Anne feels she is a stronger person for it. She even feels that she might not be so afraid of death which is a liberating feeling when its shadow is constantly on her. For this Anne says that she, and the others in the Annex, might even have benefited from their privations or sacrifice.
