how much do the franks and the van daans know about the outside world before mr.dussel arrives? what do they learn after his arrival?

They didn't know much, they used Miep and Mr. Krawler for much of their information. I don't think Mr. Dussel knows much or else he is in denial. He put off coming to the Annex until it was almost too late.
