here is the quote- (especially because it had a thick nib, and I can only write neatly with thick nibs. It has led a long and interesting fountain-pen life, which I will summarize below.)

I think Ann is writing in a lyrical fashion here using apostrophe to characterise her fountain pen. I think Ann is having some fun with language in a way that helps define her sense of joy with the written word. Ann's personality and sense of humor comes out with her "ode to a fountainpen" which the reader does not always get to see.

When she uses the word “Ode” means that she is praising her fountain pen.
