Over time, the residents get used to each other and their daily routine becomes almost conforting. Anne's relationship with Peter allows her to become a girl again. Peter provides Anne with the attention and affection she needs at this time in her life..... and even though there is no physical relationship between the two, he makes her feel good about herself, provides an escape, and gives her someone closer to her own age to share things with. D Day also changes things in the annex. It provides the residents with hope and lightenes their day. They await new with eagerness instead of dread.
