What function does usher's song "The Haunted Palace" serve in the story? (explain in a least six sentences with a couple of direct quotes.)
The song in the story serves as a window into Roderick's tortured psyche. One of these sets of verses, called "The Haunted Palace," tells of a beautiful castle in a green valley, inhabited by "the monarch Thought." Spirits move, and troops of "Echoes" sing the wisdom of their king. It is a kind of paradise. But "evil things" invade, reducing the palace to a place of "discordant melody." This of course represents the the story of the Usher family and their house.
