Two doors shut upon her, I'd like to know the significance or meaning behind the first door closing
When the first door closes, Madeline passes through the room completely unaware of our narrator's presence. It's otherworldly, like she's already gone, and the closing of the door seems to signify that she is already dead.

I regarded her with an utter astonishment not unmingled with dread; and yet I found it impossible to account for such feelings.
