why did Toohey supported Peter's career early in the novel?
In Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead, Ellsworth Toohey promoted Peter's works but later picked up Guss Webb.

Toohey has no talent of his own but wants to be able to control Peter as he rises up.

Toohey supports Peter so that the leading architect in the country will be under his control, and also because he wants him to help destroy Roark.
