How does the author (Hawkins) use the three main female characters to explore the role of women in society in the novel The Girl on the Train?

The narrators are woman so we get a female perspective through the story. The women value themselves through their looks, sexuality, and their ability to have children. Anna is confident and secure. She is good looking, married, and a mother. Megan is emotionally unstable. She has a child from a past relationship and finds her role as parent to be difficult. She is confident that she is pretty and is married. Rachel is very unstable. She spiraled into alcoholism and depression. She feels that she has lost her beauty. She is no longer married and is unable to have children. Each woman represents perceptions of women in society during this time.
