A euphemism is a gentler or nicer way of saying something that originally is not so pleasant. Why do you think the community uses the euphemism of “released”?

The word "released" is a euphemism for killed. The people in the community are so sheltered and so ignorant that they do not know or care to know the truth. The word released sounds innocuous enough to them not to be concerned.
