how did the giver changed throughout the novel?

The biggest change in the Giver comes from his ability to finally share his memories, emotions and love with Jonas. He has carried the burdens of the community alone for years and lost the daughter he loved because she wasn't emotionally strong enough to carry on his job. Through his relationship with Jonas as a teacher and mentor, he comes to understand Jonas' desire to challenge the rules of the community, and when faced with the decision to leave..... he chooses to stay and serve the community as he always has.
