How does this story end?

The novel concludes with Jonas finding a sled at the top of the hill (the sled from the memory). He then sleds down the hill with Gabriel, heading toward a place that he knows will be Elsewhere. When he forces his eyes open, he sees Christmas lights in front of him. He also hears music and singing for the first time. Jonas even thinks he hears it from behind him in the place he left, although this might only be an echo.
