How would you define love? This question is for the book (the giver)

The term "love" in the Giver  is largely superficial. The community experiences "love" within the narrow confines of how they have been brainwashed by the Elders. They experience love without pain, joy, anxiety....Of course they have not really experienced what love is. As the novel progresses, Jonas explores many emotions that make up what "love" really is.
