Jonas feels lonely because he cannot share his feelings with his family.... his pain cannot be taken away because it would go against the rules of his training. He feels lonely because he cannot share and because his family will never experience or understand what he is going through.
They have never known pain, he thought. The realization made him feel desperately lonely, and herubbed his throbbing leg. He eventually slept. Again and again he dreamed of the anguish and the
isolation on the forsaken hill.
