There are two scenes in which Jonas shares the same memory with Gabe. What are they, and what is their purpose?

In ch 14 Jonas touches Gabe to soothe him and daydreams about a calming memory of a sailboat on beautiful blue water. In chapter 23, Jonas gives Gabriel a memory of sunshine, although it is much weaker at this distance from the community. These memories are meant to soothe the distressed baby.
