What did Ashers hesitation in congradulating Jonas indecate

Jonas's being the new receiver of memories puts him in a category far above the other kids. Jonas is now forever separated from his community and his friends. There is a sense of otherness simply because Jonas's world will expand while his friends will stay in a limited stagnant world. Asher does not know what to say to Jonas because he is confused and a little afraid of his friend.
