What is the giver about (short answer)?

The Giver is about an adolescent boy growing up in a dystopian community that is represented as a utopian community. Jonas finds he is different from other members who conform to strict behavior models dictated by the Elders. Jonas is called to be the Giver/receiver of memories that are shielded from the population. Jonas eventually rebels against the Elder's ideology and the community, which they created.
