Why are the references to Jonas and Gabriel’s eyes on pages 25-26 important to the story?

Because Jonas, Gabriel, and the Giver are the only characters with blue eyes, these characters immediately stand out because they're different in a community of sameness. These differences speak directly to the fact that no matter how hard they try control to control nature.... it is impossible.
