Why didn’t Jonas play the game with the kids?

Jonas didn't play the game because of what the game entailed. The children were playing with make-believe guns, something they didn't really understand. Because of the memories he'd been given, Jonas knew what it meant to shoot a gun, and he understood the real horror of the results.
