at the bottom of pg 148, jeannette states "and so i put it out of my mind." to what is she referring? do you believe her? is it truly possible to put something out of your mind?

In my opinion, you can shove things out of your mind, I believe they always linger below the surface. Jeannette doesn't want to think her father's problems stemmed from sexual abuse, but after Erma's abuse of Brian.... it must have been difficult to do. Might she have buried this information..... definitely, but by mentioning it in this novel we can see that she never forgot.
