Do you think when Rose mary (Jeanette's mother) painted a picture of a women drowning in a storming lake, she is portraying a mirror image of herself?

That certainly could be one way to interpret the picture. There is no doubt that Jeanette's mother cannot control herself or the things going on around here. She is drowning, not literally, but figuratively in a storm over which she has no control.
