How does the family "splurge"?

The family goes to the Laundromat to splurge. Rather than damp or frozen clothes, the family was going to wash and dry their clothing..... an extra special treat.

Even with the cold, by January we were all so rank that Mom decided it was time to splurge: We would go to the Laundromat.
