The Glass Castle
Prove how the diamond ring that Brian finds and the Cadillac are symbolic of a better life for the Walls family. Pages 206-235

Jeannette and Brian discover a two-carat diamond ring in the yard outside the house. They show their mother and urge her to sell it so they can use the money for food, housing payments, and other essentials, but Rose Mary insists on keeping the ring to replace her wedding ring and to boost her self-esteem. I suppose that good things seldom happen to this family so this find might foreshadow something. This episode, however, really illustrates Rose Mary's selfishness and lack of consideration for her children.
