This is a pretty big question for this short answer space. I can try to give you a general statement. Both parents really do not take care of their kids. They leave them alone for extended periods of time; they let them do hazardous things like cook hot dogs over a fire on their own. At one point Rex "teaches" Jeannette to swim by throwing her into a lake. They also neglect their kids under the guise on nonconformity. They consider their kids as specially gifted and do not allow their children the freedom to act their age.
