Maureen's upbringing is different than the rest of the children's because she has no one to look out for her. Her older siblings had each other, but now they're off doing their own things. None-the-less, Maureen also hasn't learned independence.... thus, she relies on others to take care of her. She doesn't have the same drive, quits school, and never learns responsibility. Jeannette feels a great deal of guilt because she didn't protect Maureen like she promised.
