Rex and Rose Mary got into an argument during their move from Midland to Blythe. Rex, who'd been drinking, was frustrated by Rose Mary’s insistence that she carried Lori in her womb for 14 months, telling her she'd simply lost count of the months. Rose Mary, offended, jumped out of the moving car, after which, Rex had to chase her, cursing at her as he drove, and frightening the children who were afraid he was going to run her over. Rex eventually cornered Rose Mary by some rocks, got out, and tossed her back into the car. Rose Mary cried for the remainder of the car ride..... the children were afraid.
