Rex Walls often asks his children, “Have I ever let you down?” Why was this question, and its required response, so important to him and to his children? On what occasions does he actually not let them down?

In my opinion, Rex let his children down daily. I believe that he genuinely tried at timse, but most of the time he acted like a spoiled, selfish man, who was more worried about continuing his own childhood than raising children. Rex's chiildren, however, loved him. Times Rex didn't let his children down were few and far between. They did, however, cherish the stars he gave them for Christmas when he couldn't afford gifts, and he occasionally takes a job that affords him a real paycheck.
