The Walls family continued to read a lot, Rose Mary and Lori obsessively. What did reading provide for them?

The children didn't have a lot of toys and extras, thus, they loved the books their mother brought home from the library. Jeanette especially loved that her teachers called on her to read when someone important came into the room. Reading, for the Walls children, was an addiction and an escape.
