What happens to jeannette in Miss Page's class?

Dad accuses thinks Jeannette isn't trying hard enough and is just "coasting" because she is smart. He makes her do her arithmetic in binary numbers instead of Arabic numbers. Miss Page gets angry. She thinks Jeannette is just trying to be smart. She makes Jeannette stay after school to do her homework in the "correct" form.
