What is Rex’s new excuse for getting fired?

When the family moved to Battle Mountain, Rex got a job as an electrician in a barite mine. I read the selection but I was confused. I understand why he can't keep a job and I know what he want to do but I couldn't find about his new excuse.. Thanks
