Like her children, Amanda withdraws from reality into fantasy. She often prefers this fantasy world to dealing with her present situation. She is obsessed with a fantasy version of the past repeating stories like; "One Sunday afternoon in Blue Mountain" she received 17 gentlemen callers.
Laura Wingfield is shy and self-conscious of her disability. She lives in her own world with fragile ornaments which reflect her own physicality and personality. She of course loves her unicorn who "doesn't complain." Her imaginary world is also as fragile as the glass sculptures she cherishes.
