Laura' opposite forces?

Besides her general fragile disposition the character of Tom Wingfield, an extremely flawed character himself, seems to hold Laura back. There is a vicious cycle of co-dependence going on here. Laura is rendered to a fate entirely dictated by Tom's own decisions. Laura's passivity, meanwhile, incurs a tremendous amount of guilt and repressed rage in Tom, who has trouble leaving as long as he thinks of his sister.
