What can you infer from Amanda's comment that's Laura now, her figure enhanced, is "the prettiest [she] will ever be"?

Actually, Amanda is being less than kind...... insulting. From her remark, we can infer that Laura is not a very attractive young woman..... and that her mother doesn't believe that age will enhance her appearance.
