The Glass Menagerie
What did Tom mean when he said
"Man is by instinct a lover, a hunter, a fighter, and none of these instincts are given much play at the warehouse
"Man is by instinct a lover, a hunter, a fighter, and none of these instincts are given much play at the warehouse
Tom hates his job at the warehouse and wants to be free of the boredom it represents. Amanda tries to tie him down by saying that most young men are able to find adventure in their careers, and that most are not always looking for adventure........ Tom answers that, "Man is by instinct a lover, a hunter, a fighter, and none of these instincts are given much play at the warehouse."
This is Tom's way of telling Amanda that his job gives him no satisfaction as a man....... that he wants to be out and about and not trapped by a job he hates, in a place where he's going nowhere.
