Bring out theme of 'identity crisis' in "The God of Small Things".

In my opinion, the theme of identity is not integral to the text, but the two characters that we can best apply this theme to would be Estha and Rahel. Estha and Rahel have their own sense of identity, and yet, their identity is connected. Together, they are one. On another level, as they learn about their world and surroundings, Estha and Rahel take on separate identities.... identities to help them deal with different kinds of circumstamces. Once again, however, these are not individual identities, but rather, the use of other individuals (Ambassador E. Pelvis, Ambassador Stick Insect, and The Airport Fairy) to help them cope. In the end, their reunion affords them a wholeness that they never experienced in the years they were apart.
