Society respects elders and views their wisdom as essential.

The elderly are taken care of without discussion; you didn't drop Grandpa off at the nursing home and pay a stranger to take care of his needs. You took care of him yourself.

The elders are seen as voices of reason and experience, and they are asked for guidance in times of trouble.
