What are Joad's views on California?

Before or after they actually arrive in California?

The Joads believe that once they get to California their worries will be over. They believe that their arrival in California will bring a chance to work (there's always something to pick), an alleviation to the fear of hunger (oranges for the taking), make money, and who knows..... maybe even make their fortune. California is seen as the land of opportunity and a place where dreams come true.

"Why don't you go on west to California? There's work there, and it never gets cold. Why, you can reach out anywhere and pick an orange. Why, there's always some kind of crop to work in."

"....Jus' let me get out to California where I can pick me an orange when I want it. Or grapes. There's a thing I ain't never had enough of. Gonna get me a whole big bunch of grapes off a bush, or whatever, an' I'm gonna squash 'em on my face an' let 'em run offen my chin."

"Maybe we can start again, in the new rich land—in California, where the fruit grows. We'll start over."
