Chapter Eight.
talks about how Jesus went off into the wilderness alone, and how he did the same. Yet what Casy concluded was that mankind was holy. Casy's speech is Steinbeck's glorification of the common man. The plight of the common man is holy and as long as they stick together, there is at least hope.
