where does Tom go after dinner on the first day of peach/picking? why?

Basically the family is starving at this new camp. After some yummy fried dough and a bit of meat, Tom takes a walk to see what the commotion was all about that they saw earlier. Tom soon finds Casey and some other picketers hiding out in some tent. They tell Tom about how the workers need to band together if they want to make a whopping five cents a truckload or barrel for whatever they are picking. Then all the commotion breaks out when the camp is found Casey is killed and Tom is being hunted down.
