    Kind of Activity:

    Group Work

    Objective:

    To understand the importance of the central settings to the structure of the novel, and to organize students' understanding of the world of Gatsby

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.R.5 ; CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.SL.5

    Structure:

    The first two chapters of the novel introduce all but one of the primary settings of the novel:

    - Nick's cottage

    - the Buchanans' house

    - Wilson's garage

    - New York City interiors

    The only important setting not yet visited, conspicuously, is Gatsby's mansion.
