To understand the challenges of adapting the novel to other media.

Structure:

Using clips from the many film/operatic/theatrical adaptations of Gatsby, discuss what aspects seem to be most important in adapting this particular novel to other media.

Questions for discussion might include:

-What is effective about these adaptations? What doesn't work as well?

-If you had the chance to adapt Gatsby, what medium do you think would be best and why?

-What aspects would you handle differently than the versions we've seen?
