Okay, I'm going to assume that you are talking about the 1974 production as few people have seen the new one. There are many small differences between the book and movie. The big difference I recall, I saw it so long ago, was that in the movie Nick is not the narrator nor is it specified he is. That bothered me because I am so used to Nick in the book.
