Chapter 7
The garage in the Valley of Ashes now has much more meaning to it. There is a sense of foreboding about its function and symbolism. It is like a rickety bridge about to collapse as it straddles the two worlds of East Egg and New York. The Plaza serves as the place where tensions finally reach a boiling point. All the repressed anger, sexuality, and warped sense of morality come into view. It is like an arena where all the dirty laundry of these characters are displayed.
