Fitzgerald uses a few different characterizations in order for his readers to easily visualize his characters. In the Great Gatsby, his chracterizations include; the social status or social posisiton of his characters, their place of residence (also linked to social status), what they do for a living, and different forms of speech. Most of his characters sound well educated, Gatsby sometimes speaks as if he's trying too hard to sound educated, and then there's Mr. Wolfsheim who speaks in a dialect indicative of his lack of education and lack social class.
